A letter from

David M. Carcieri, Executive Director

Happy Summer from the Sussex County YMCA:

It’s time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful outdoors of northwestern New Jersey!  We have a lot to do here outside at the Y too.  Our teen-adult kickball league on Thursday nights is off to a running start.  It’s wonderful to see so many of our members, their friends and our Y employees teaming up and having fun.  Our Family Summer Series on Friday nights is also a hit with volleyball, wiffleball, kickball, open swim and more.  Kids enjoy playing with their parents and it’s great for adults to lead by example the importance of being active and to Put Play in Your Day.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for enrolling their children in our summer camps and to also let many of you know we still have sessions available at our Blue Mountain Day Camp at Fairview Lake in Stillwater and our Junior Y and Summer Y Kids Club and Teen Camp at our Hardyston location.  Kids work hard all school year and summer vacation for them should be an enjoyable, enriching and safe experience they’ll want to remember for a lifetime. We know with the tough economy that many families are worried about paying for camp. The Y strives to provide affordable summer camp options while still meeting our high standards of program quality.  As with all of our programs, our goal is to never turn anyone away because of the inability to pay. Our staff and volunteers go to great lengths to raise money for our Strong Kids Campaign each year which sponsors area children in our camp programs.

This summer, we’ve also been delighted to welcome families to the White Lake Beach Club in Sparta.  As many of you know, the Sussex County YMCA is managing the beach this season at the request of Sparta Township.  It’s a beautiful, glacier-formed lake with a white sand beach great for swimming, picnicking, boating, nature walks, bird watching and more.  Our YMCA aquatics department has many exciting things planned for White Lake Beach Club members, including “Crazy Craft” times, guided nature walks, swim lessons, lifeguard training and more.

All of us at the Y think of you, our members, as family and we hope to see you at our Fourth Annual Outdoor BBQ Festival on Saturday, July 24th from 5 to 8 pm.  This fun filled family event with the theme, Under the Big Top, will include a petting zoo, face-painting, games and crafts.  Again, we like to thank Sussex County’s own famous grill-master Jarrod Cofrancesco of the Homestead Rest BBQ Company for providing all-you-can-eat ribs, chicken, hot dogs, salads and more.

Information on all our programs, camps and events are available on this website.  However, if you have any questions or comments, we also like hearing and seeing you in person so feel free to call our Welcome Center at (973) 209-9622 or visit us at 15 Wits End Road in Hardyston.

Sincerely,

David M. Carcieri
