Babysitter's Training

Babysitter’s Training (11 - 15 years) - Gain the skills and confidence you need to become a great babysitter. Learn decision making skills, first aid and basic care skills. All participants receive a Babysitter’s Handbook and earn an American Red Cross Babysitter’s training certificate upon completion of the course.

Lay Responder CPR/AED

Lay Responder CPR & Oxygen- Lay responders will gain the knowledge and skills to provide care for adults, children, and infants who have breathing emergencies, such as choking, and learn to perform CPR.

AED- Learn to use an Automated External Defibrillator to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Participants must have a current CPT certification (please bring to class) or be completing AED certification along with a CPR class.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED

CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED – This certification is required by health professionals and lifeguards, who have a professional duty to act in an emergency and provide care. The class covers adult, child and infant CPR (one and two rescuer), and use of the Automated External Defibrillator to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

First Aid

First Aid – Participants learn the skills and knowledge necessary to give care in an emergency situation, help sustain life until medical assistance arrives and minimize the consequences of injury and sudden illness

Lifeguard Training - Registration Form
Must be 15 years old to take class.

Lifeguard Training - A 36-hour course includes Waterfront Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. Minimum age 15 years old.

The Pre-requisite Swim test will be administered on the 1st day of class & includes the following:
1) 550 yard swim- 22 continuous laps must be swam.
Front Crawl & Breaststroke required.
2) Retrieve 3 rings from the bottom of the pool.
3) Swim 30 yards, retrieve 10 pound brick from bottom of deep end, swim 30 yards on back while carrying the brick, remove brick & self from pool.

American Red Cross Class Refund Policy

Lifeguard candidates who do not pass the pre-requisite test will not receive any credit or refund. Please do not register for course if you are not confident of ability to pass. See details of swim test on our website.
Full refunds will be given only if the Sussex County YMCA needs to cancel the course (due to low enrollment).
Students who do not show up will not receive any credit or refund
Students who cancel prior to the start of class are entitled to a transfer if another class is available, but will not receive any credit or refund.

Learn to teach swim lessons with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. This course is strongly recommended by local area swim lesson providers.

Lifeguard Instructor
