AOA Today’s mature adults are more health conscious than ever before. At the Sussex County YMCA we’ve made the health and wellness of our active adults a top priority by providing programs for the spirit mind and body. Through group exercise classes and aquatics programs that focus on mobility and flexibility, educational programs, social events, day trips and volunteer activities, the YMCA brings Active Adults together for camaraderie, fellowship and fun!

Active Adults Day – the first Thursday of each month is Active Adults Day at the Sussex County YMCA. Join us for a variety of special activities each month including crafts, line dancing, educational seminars, lunch and more. Non-members welcome (nominal fee applies).  Look at our events schedule to find the next scheduled day.

The following classes are designed especially for our Active Adults and any members interested in focusing on improving fitness and daily functions. These classes are included in membership.

Active Adult Balance – Improve posture, restore balance and confidence through instructor guided stability challenges.

Active Adult Toning– Stretching and toning for increased flexibility, range of motion and strength.

Arthritis Aquatic Exercise - This pool-based program is designed to improve flexibility, strength, mobility and physical fitness in people with arthritis and a variety of other conditions. Please note: All course participants must provide a signed physician consent form prior to starting the program.

Chair Yoga
– Get the benefits of yoga without having to get down on the floor. Class uses chair based modifications.

Feeling Fit - A low intensity, low impact class that involves both cardiovascular and muscular conditioning. Use of tubing, light weights and chairs is a great way for seniors to keep fit!

Water Aerobics - Great way to get fit in a buoyant aquatic environment. Get moving to the music as the instructor leads you through a balanced and varied workout, including cardiovascular endurance, toning and stretching.
